Ladies Day Out....Posted: May 13th 2008

Lyn Lissa flew the flag for girls last Saturday by returning to the clubhouse with a great score of 46 points to win the 18 hole stableford event.

Lyn didn’t need any assistance from the countback system as she had a 2 point lead over Lyle Smedley who finished second, 3 points clear of Ian Hubble who hung onto 3rd spot with 41 points.

The, I nearly got a hole in brigade included Wayne Groombridge, Lyle Smedley, Ian Hubble and Janice Bentley who also grabbed the double with the longest putt of the day. The Ladies and Men’s long drives were a family affair with Lyn & Rusty Lissa winning their respective long drives. Shot or shots of the day went to Shane Jamieson when he claimed the nearest the pin for 2 on the first hole. Jamo’s huge drive and an amazing second shot left Club President, Lincoln Tavo in awe of such a great golfer. Next week is a 4BBB event so grab a partner and get in early.

MAY MONTHLY MUG....Posted: May 7th 2008

Tim Britcliffe shot a wonderful 68 off the stick and then finished with a nett of 62 to win the May monthly Mug. Lyle Smedley finished 2 strokes back on 64 as did Ian Beale with Lyle eventually getting the nod via the count-back. Ian, (The Fastest Fireman) Hubble had a good day’s golf with the nearest the pin on both 13 and 17 with 13 being the money hole.

The Lady’s crew must have had a big night out with none of the fairer sex being able to claim the Lady’s long drive however VJ Sweeney showed everyone up by claiming the men’s long drive on the 9th.

Greg Seymour had another “I nearly got a hole in one” shot on the 2nd whilst Lyn Lissa claimed the same on the 8th. Wayne Groombridge won the nearest the pin for 2 shots on the 4th however the shot of the day went to Geoff McKinnis when he sunk a monster putt on the 14th.

PILBARA CHAMPIONSHIPS....Posted: April 28th 2008

Last weekend saw the Pilbara 4’s Championships being held on Port Hedland with golfers from all around the Pilbara descending on our local course for a shot at the title. The visiting golfers set some very high standards however it was two of our better local golfers in Lincoln Tavo & Jarrod Hodgins who stole the day.The dynamic duo carded 148 over the 2 days beating another pair of locals in Ian Hubble & VJ Sweeney who managed a solid 155 for the weekend. Men’s nett winners, Ben Tawhiti & Zoran Kmetovic, held out the second place pairing of Dave & Mike Hilsz by 3 strokes relegating Ken Wilcocks & Dave Moir to third place.

The Women’s gross placings were all visiting golfers with Sunan Ong-Arch and Chelsea Broun winning the title from Darleen Hartnell and Marie Nottle. Wendy Austin (Newman) and Gina Hipworth (Karratha) teamed up to scramble into third spot.

Local legends, Helen Wright & Aroha Brockman, teamed up to win the Lady’s Nett trophy from visitors Suzanne Byrne & Tanya O’Connor relegating another local team in Lyn Lissa & Marg Moore to third place.
