Lyle (too tall) Smedley was the toast of the club last Saturday when he was declared the winner of the 2009 BIS Summer Cup. Lyle easily accounted for his nearest rival, Bob Kelly, who finished second with Janice Bentley finishing a very credible third. Lyle won the last round with 22 points finishing 2points ahead of Captain Jarrod who tied for second with John Plumb when they both finished on 20 points. John was eventually relegated to third via the dreaded count back. Some other notable performers on the day were recorded by Ian Beale with the nearest the pin on the 2nd and Sir Eric Wagland’s great tee shot off the 8th. Graham Gilbert out drove all the big boys to claim the Men’s Long Drive with Jenny Dickson adding yet another Lady’s long drive to her collection. Graham Green clinched the longest putt of the day with event sponsor Clint Aitchison, snaring the nearest the pin for 3.
Next week heralds the start of the 18 hole competition with the coveted Elders Insurance opening day. It’s a 4 person Ambrose event commencing at high noon. Details from the club on 91722 046.
